Dash cam

I love my privacy. I’m not the biggest fam of security cameras and Big Brother watching everything we do, so when Hubby organised a dash cam for my car I sighed, but agreed.

I was gym-bound one morning when I was surprised by a car, parked, right in the middle of the road. It was 4am, dark, and this section of road was remote – not even street lighting. And the single-lane-each-way with a large ute stradling the centre line, meant I couldn’t have passed even if I’d wanted to! So I slowed, stopped my car a few metres away, wound down my window and called out an offer of help.

A man emerged, explaining his engine wouldn’t start. (How did it stop while he was driving? I wondered. And why keep your headlights on? Wouldn’t that drain the battery further?)

He started walking toward me, while I suggested I call RACQ… but then he stopped, turned around and got back into his ute. “I’ll just check it again,” he said – then started his vehicle and drove off, passing me quite quickly.

Uneasy, I continued on my way. At home later that morning, Hubby was quick to check the dash cam footage. “He’d been stalking you,” he suspected. “He’d figured out your routine and was planning (something I don’t even want to type right now) but he saw the light on the dash cam and knew he was being recorded.”

And the policemen who he gave the footage to, agreed completely.

I’m quite fond of my dash cam now, I must admit.

Have a safe day yourself now, dear Reader!

#blogJune day13

I found this on my Facebook feed last night and reposted it.

It was exactly 12 months since the inciting incident that made my life what is is today. The impetus for the most amount of pain I’ve ever felt – but to reflect, 12 months down the track, on the fact that I’m here, on the other side? It’s joyous.

Thank you, Lord!

Here’s praying you have an overcoming day today yourself, dear Reader 🙂

PS And boy! Am I glad I’ll never have to have that anniversary again 😀 😀 😀

#blogJune day8

It was back in early March when my older brother told me about Dr John Campbell, a retired British nurse educator who was analysing the COVID19 pandemic in daily YouTube updates. My brother waxed lyrical on how good Dr John was, so I checked it out when I found the time.

And I was an instant conversion. March 8 was the first video I watched, and WHOA it was good! Simple, clear, factual information that like of which we weren’t getting from politicians or news media alike. And haven’t since, I must admit.

If you have 20 minutes to spare, check it out. IMHO, it’s worth your while!

And have a safe day today, dear Reader 🙂

Returning you to your regular program…?

Possibly, that is. After all, it was March 9 when I last posted. Nine weeks ago. And that’s pretty sad.

But then again, the world is certainly a much sadder place than it was nine weeks ago. And I don’t know about you, but I’ve been having a hard time writing. Surviving-with-sanity-mostly-intact in this new world we’re inhabiting has been more of the order of the day.

Having said that though, I have good news. My baby budgie (well, born almost a year ago now) became a Mum just over a month ago. Making me a legit-grandma!

We couldn’t keep the baby though, for a variety of reasons, so I listed him on Gumtree yesterday morning… and he sold within 7 hours! Crazy…

Well, off into the week we go. Hope it’s a ‘sane’ one for you, dear Reader 🙂

New Year, new start

Welcome back, dear Reader!

Last year was a ‘photo’ post each week, which challenged me to improve my photography skills. Which worked… to some extent. In fact, I even considered challenging myself further and committing to a years’ worth of “selfie” posts (because those ones are like, a zillion times worse than actual photos. Well, for those of us who remember a time before the internet was even invented. Am I right?)

But no. Perhaps next year. But I’ll still attempt to include a photo with each post this year. Let’s see how we go with that, huh?

But today’s post is still about challenges. Specifically, the Goodreads challenge I set myself last year. 3 books per week. That’s 156 books in the year. Which seems a lot.

And I made it!!! So proud of me 🙂

Admittedly, numbers of those were the picture books which I ended up reading to my classes after being made redundant mid-year and being blessed enough to get Teacher Librarian work in July. But still 🙂

So. Goodreads challenge this year. 208 again – because I can! and it’s only 4 per week. right? – but the aim this year is to have only one picture book per month. Perhaps two. But no more than 24 of those 156 will be picture books. Because, well, why not? 🙂

How about you, dear Reader? Are you planning on reading books this year? How many? And if you’re also on Goodreads, want to connect?

Oh! And I almost forgot. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

48/52

Miss14 graduated Middle School last week. Her Graduation Dinner was a truly enjoyable occasion, honouring the efforts and achievements of the young men and women who had made this milestone in their journeys.

She wore her first ‘formal dress’ with high heels, and was wearing jewellery and perfume.

It was a beautiful evening! I laughed, I choked up, but mostly I was proud of the young lady God had given to Hubby and me to raise.

What a memorable event. I trust your own week is just as memorable, dear Reader 🙂

I’d been saddened over the last couple of years at noticing human encroachment (ie litter and worse) at my favourite writing spot. I’d even given up going there… for months.

Imagine my surprise when this greeted me the other day:

Evidence of humanity’s more disgusting habits: gone!

I like it when things go well.

Have a beautiful week yourself, dear Reader!

A new semester starts today.

For 4 out of the 5 in my household, today marks the start at a new school too.

Exciting times!

(Feel free to guess the kidlets’ schools from their uniforms…) And have a ‘new’ week yourself, dear Reader!

I wrote last week about my operation… well, kinda.

So I had surgery on the Tuesday, and had Wednesday and Thursday off work, and returned Friday – which also happened to be my birthday.

One of my incredibly wonderful colleagues decided she’d make me a cheesecake – both to cheer my up after the operation and for my birthday.

Made.

From scratch.

Using Oreos – SOOOOO scrumptious!!!

And all for me 😀

Wasn’t it pretty? And it tasted even better than it looked! I am so lucky!

Here’s wishing you a blessed week too, dear Reader!

Hubby and I were given two of these ‘Burlingbrown’ water bottles last year. I promptly fell in love, and to mark it always and forever as MINE and not his (or anyone else’s!) I taped purple stars around the outside, above the logo.

Then took it to work and promptly lost it.

Sigh.

A fortnight passed. Lucky Hubby didn’t mind too much when I appropriated his for my use…

Months passed. Still no water bottle with the pretty purple stars. Double sigh. I had abandoned hope.

Then just the other week: cue elation! I found where I’d left it: on a co-worker’s never-used desk!

And that’s my story for the week. Here’s wishing you a ‘found it again’-ful week yourself, dear Reader 🙂
