I had originally planned to write a 26-instalment work of fiction for this #AtoZchallenge. Titled “The Daughter of EmGeen”, it ended up being FAR too M+ rated for me to feel comfortable publishing it on this site. So I have other plans for that story.
But the “B” entry for ‘The Daughter of EmGeen’ was ‘B is for Black’. And it is that which I wanted to write about today.
An online friend and writer, KD James, is also participating in the #AtoZchallenge this year. She’s part-way through her story, a mystery involving her main character Zoey, who befriends a dragon amidst her other adventures. Her description of the dragon’s cave really invoked for me what ‘dark’ feels like. It’s here: A to Z challenge: D
Contrast that to what the Bible says in John Chapter 8 verse 12. “When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
I like that. The opportunity to NEVER walk in darkness. To never worry about barking a shin, stubbing a toe, or spilling hot candle wax on yourself…
So today’s metaphor? Light of the World.
Used for? To never walk in darkness again.
How to receive? Follow Jesus.

Barking a shin? That’s a new one on me! I take it from context that bark in this usage is like “bump” but it’s a new definition for me. Now I’m gonna have to look it up!
Well, that didn’t even help yet. Okay, I’ll have to whip out the old traditional printed dictionary. I’m sure I have one around here somewhere…

Hi, Kae! Thanks for linking to my “D” (is for dragon) post, I’m really have fun writing that story. It’s a wonderful bonus that it prompted you to write about Light — not enough of that in the world these days.
Hi KD – and you’re MOST welcome!!! And yes, I agree that the Light seems dimmer. Perhaps it’s the speed that everything seems to be moving at. Our attention spans get shorter because there’s so much to do and so little time, and the news outlets want eyeballs, so everything gets sensationalised, and bad news gets better attention…? It’s a little sad, really 🙁
